Owners
Douglas Rice and James Hannon have backgrounds
in dial retrieval media systems, language laboratories
and television studios extending back to 1968
where they met at Chester Electronic Laboratories
(CEL). CEL, founded by David Joslow, was a leader
in the US marketplace for language laboratories
and dial retrieval audio/video systems. As CEL
employees, Jim and Doug were involved in all aspects
of engineering, production, system sales, installation
and service.
With the subsequent purchase of CEL by GTE Information
Systems and eventual closing of that line, there
were a growing number of 'box sale houses' that
did not direct their efforts to the custom design,
interface, installation, service and training
of the box products they sold. As Chester Technical
Services continued to service customers, this
void was evident. In 1974 Chester Technical Services
Incorporated in the state of Connecticut with
the purpose of filling this void in the market.
In 1976 the decision was made to pursue a language
laboratory line of equipment that would offer
customers new language learning system opportunities.
CTS entered into contractual agreements to market
Sony AV Products in 1976. CTS maintained a strong
relationship with Sony Electronics for 27 years
offering design, sales, service and training to
our customers. At the same time CTS continued
to grow in size and offering new and innovative
equipment and software to enhance our custom systems
as the situation required.
In June of 2003 Sony appointed SANS Inc (Software
and Networking Solutions Inc) as the exclusive
licensor of all their software based language
lab solutions, with limitless opportunity to expand.
Chester Technical Services, Inc., continues with
SANS Inc. supporting the CTS existing customer
base with repair parts for Sony analog labs, training
and a now twenty-first century replacement: An
all digital software based laboratory VIRTUOSO™
/SOLOIST®.
